{rough life}

I know I complain about having 2 kids close together, and all the stress that that brings. But when it comes down to it. . . I have anything BUT a rough life.

Yesterday we got the pool and slip n slide out and invited all of our homies over for a day of fun in the sun.

{with my chicas: Michelle, Texie, and Anna}
That's right. . . we are all reading Stephenie Meyer's The Host and loving it!

So when I think about ever complaining again . . . all I need to do is look at these pictures and remember. . .
I've got a pretty coosh life.

Memorial Day

Although it was a gloomy day. . . that didn't stop us from having a great time spending the day together as a family.

We started by going to visit a few graves in Salt Lake.

Growing up I have many memories of visiting graves with my Nanna and Papa on Memorial Day. They always had the car loaded up with flowers and lots of treats and drinks for the kids. On the way to each cemetery, Nanna would tell us stories about the people we were about to visit. It always turned out to be a memorable day for our family.

Logan and I have decided that we want to do the same thing with our children. It's hard to explain graves and a cemetery to a three year old who is full of questions. . . but we did the best we could.

We stared out by visiting my Nanna's parents. This brought back a lot of memories.

Then we headed over to Logan's grandpa on his mother's side. He passed away a few years ago. I was lucky enough to have met him before he passed.

Next up we went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Hammer's grave. They both passed away a short time after Logan and I were married. . . but I have a few really great memories of them. I'm glad I got to meet them.

{Ayden's debut as a photographer. Not too bad eh?}

We headed out to Herriman to have a BBQ with Colter, Abi, their kids, and the Newton gang at Kristen and Steve's house.

Don't worry, they are currently having a fabulous time in Las Vegas. . . I'm sure they won't mind.

The kids had a great time destroying. . . I mean playing there (sorry Kristen) and we enjoyed the company as well.

Logan and Colter had a soccer game that evening so I took my kids and we got to watch daddy play soccer. The kids love to watch him especially when he scores the only 2 goals for their team.

The kids fell asleep on the way home so we had a relaxing evening together.
The perfect end to a nice holiday.

{the depths of Mary}

This past week I've spent a lot of time reflecting on my life.
(I know what you're thinking, Mary's not that deep)
(and you're right, generally I'm not)

Did you know . . . that I love my husband! I love him. He is my best friend. I love spending time with him, talking, playing around. He is so fun and funny, and has so much energy.

Did you also know . . . that I love being a mom! There is nothing in my life that has given me as much joy as being with my little friends.

They make me laugh, and sometimes cry, but I always have abounding love for them and feel it from them in return.

{Ayden moments}

Yesterday morning I was in the yard picking flowers for my kitchen when I saw a bug and jumped back.

"whats the matter mommy?"

"oh, mommy is just really really scared of bugs"

"it's okay mommy. . . I'll bee-tect you"

"you'll protect me?"

"Yeah mommy, I'll bee-tect you from the bees so you don't have to be scared anymore."

Our sweet little Sophie has been really sick this week. This afternoon Logan was working in the yard when Ayden came up to him with a dandelion. He said he was going to make a wish and blow it so it would come true. Log watched as he sat on the grass and closed his eyes. A few seconds later he blew it out with all his might. He looked up at Logan and said:

"Daddy, do you know what I wished for?"

"What buddy?"

"I wished for Sophie to get better."

{project mode}

I'm not one to take on many projects, especially when I have no idea what I'm doing.

Sometimes Logan will come home from a long day and say that he didn't eat lunch. I'm always so surprised because my days are pretty much based on meal time and when is the next time I get to eat. But taking on this major project gave me a little insight into his life.

On Friday morning I decided this would be the weekend that I finally tackled the kitchen cupboards. I have been wanting to do something with them since we moved in because I'm not a huge fan of oak. So instead of giving myself more time to deliberate, I just decided to do it.

Next thing I know it's Saturday night and I've done nothing but eat, sleep, breath cabinets. Holy cow, I don't think I knew what I had gotten myself into.

But here we are, a mere 4 days later and it's done! I actually finished Monday afternoon so all in all it didn't take as long as I thought it would.

Before

After

{much better}

It was a good learning opportunity for me and I'm glad I did it. I am also glad to be out of project mode and back into real life.

(although I do have plans to do the same thing in my bathroom!)
